The teeth of helical gear are twisted oblique to the gear axis, teeth direction can be right hand or left side. Right hand and left hand helical gears mate as a set, the helix angle must be same for one set. Helical gear have the advantage of transferring power smoothly compared with spur gear because more than two teeth will be in mesh at any moment in time.
